The Golden Guide to the Cost of a New Wood-Burning Stove Installation in 2025

Are you thinking about installing a wood-burning stove and want to learn just exactly how much it will cost? There are many variables which impact how much a wood-burning stove installation costs in 2025. In this article you will learn what makes the cost of a wood-burning stove installation increase, what makes the cost of a wood-burning stove installation decrease, why some companies are more expensive and why some companies are cheaper.

What impacts the cost of a wood-burning stove installation?

Fire style

One of the biggest factors which impacts how much a log burner installation will cost is the type of fire chosen, starting with the style itself. There are many different styles of wood stove available, from the more classic option of a chamber-style stove to suspended models, inset models and everything in between. Typically, the larger the stove and the more features it has, the higher the cost. For example, a peninsular, room-dividing wood burner with 3 sides of glass will typically cost more than an inset, single-sided wood burner because it has more material and a more complex design.

Brand

Within the different styles of fire, there are various different brands available which all offer various levels of craftsmanship and quality, this will also have a significant impact on the overall cost of your wood-burning stove installation. To give you an example of how cost can differ from brand to brand, we will run through a few comparisons. Although these comparisons are the same style of fire they have certain aspects of quality or features which set them apart in price.

By arranging a personal showroom appointment we can discuss your needs with you and, if you have a budget, discuss which fires will sit within this whilst reaching the design that you desire.

Design & Materials

Another factor which impacts the cost of a wood-burning stove installation is the level of additional features included in the overall design. For example, if you’re installing a freestanding stove which will sit within a chamber but decide to include a stone fireplace surround and a herringbone-style brick chamber, this is going to cost more than if you were to opt for no fireplace surround (perhaps even including a wooden beam) and a plain chamber which is boarded for a painted finish. Similarly, the materials chosen in your design will impact the cost of the installation. For example, a painted wood fireplace surround may cost around £600 whereas choosing a limestone or marble fireplace surround typically costs between £1000 – £4000.

Chimney

Your chimney requirements will also have a significant impact on the cost of the overall wood stove installation. Typically, if the fire is going into an existing chimney this will cost less than a fire which isn’t going into an existing chimney. For these installations, a twin wall flue system is required which is more expensive than the cost of a flue liner. If you require a twin wall flue, then how much you require will also have an impact on the overall cost. This can be determined at a site survey.

Why do fireplace companies differ in price?

Now that you have learnt how the cost of a wood-burning stove installation can differ depending on the style of fire, the brand & materials chosen, the overall design and the chimney requirements, it’s time to learn why some companies are more/less expensive than others.

The reason why different fireplace companies differ in price is impacted by:

  1. the quality of the products & materials they offer (is the product they are proposing poor or high quality? Consider not just the fire itself but also the quality of the stone and even the flue liner. Ie. We use high quality Italian slate rather than Chinese and our flue liners are high grade, equipped with a 20 year warranty).
  2. the level of experience, skills and expertise they hold (how much experience and knowledge do they have in this field? Are they HETAS registered?)
  3. the amount of work involved (are the company offering a full turn-key service? Can they help with a design? Will they manage the project? Does their work include everything, or do you need to find other tradesmen to complete the plastering/joinery/electrics?)
  4. the aftercare service provided (do they offer annual servicing? Will they help you if you have a problem with the fire?)

By asking yourself the questions above it should help you navigate towards choosing an appropriate company for your wood-burning stove installation. If you find yourself comparing installation quotes from a few different stove installers and find that one quote is much cheaper than others it’s worth asking yourself, why is this? Sacrificing quality, warranty and overall aesthetics can often lead to regret and mistakes, inducing further costs later down the line. Installing a wood-burning stove is an investment to a home and isn’t easy to replace so it’s important to get it right.
